Phone line extended to help hidden carers

Many people who carry out caring responsibilities do not recognise themselves as carers, but may benefit from some support and could be unaware of the help available to them. Many may feel that they are simply carrying out ordinary responsibilities as a friend or family member.
Safeguarding adult reviews across Berkshire, have identified a need for more proactive awareness to support those people who maybe looking after someone. These people are often unregistered carers, and may not be aware of what support is available to aid them in their role. If you are looking after someone, you can call the Freephone number on 0800 1337851 where you will be offered support and information.
Debbie Hartrick, Associate Director for Safeguarding, East Berkshire CCG and Kathy Kelly, Designated Head of Safeguarding Adults, Berkshire West CCG said:
"We are delighted to be part of this campaign. It is so important that people who are looking after a family member, friend or anyone in a caring role, know how to seek support when they need it."
They added "We are hoping this campaign will raise awareness across our communities and we are excited with the launch of this campaign. We would like to thank our Health, Local Authority, Healthwatch and Safeguarding Adult Board Partners in working collaboratively; their support and enthusiasm helped us get this project from a vague idea to concrete action!"
