Over the next few months Frimley Health and Care – the health and social care system covering East Berkshire, Surrey Heath, Farnham and Northeast Hampshire – will be sharing advice on things everyone can do to stay well this winter.

Dr Lalitha Iyer, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Frimley, said: “Being able to enjoy good health is the result of so many different factors, from what we eat and drink to how active we are, how much sleep we get and how we interact with others. It’s also about feeling confident to manage common ailments with a well-stocked medicine cabinet and making the right choice on health services when we need them.

“Do not worry if you feel unsure, we are here to help.  We will be sharing bitesize pieces of advice over the winter months to help you, your families, friends, and neighbours to have a positive, safe and healthy winter.”

The advice will be focusing on:

  • Getting winter ready
  • Making the right health service choice
  • Looking after yourself and others
  • Caring for children
  • Looking after your mental health
  • Encouraging small habits that can help you live well, eat well, and keep moving.

Winter traditionally sees an increase in demand on all health services so it’s doubly important for individuals to do what they can to stay healthy and safe and to reduce the likelihood of them needing medical care.

Dr Iyer said: “Nobody wants to have to seek medical attention at the best of times, so we’re hoping that by sharing these tips over the winter we can support people to stay well and that if they do need to get help, they can do it as quickly, easily and at the right place .

“I would urge all local residents to keep an eye out for our messages and to follow the advice as best as they can to help them and their nearest and dearest to stay well.”
